Evening Courier & Republic Friday, 11 July, 1873 Death of a Buffalo Sailor - The Milwaukee Sentinel, of the 9th, has the following notice of the death of JOSEPH WRIGHT, first mate of the Erastus Corning. MR. WRIGHT leaves a wife who resides at No. 374 Fourteenth street, in this city, to whom the news of his sudden demise will be a sad blow. Deceased was about 50 years of age, and was counted among the most competent and reliable men in his profession: "The propeller Cleveland arrived at this port at an early hour yesterday morning with the remains of a man named JOSEPH WRIGHT, first mate of the Erastus Corning, who died on board his vessel at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon, when off the South Manitou Islands, from congestion of the lungs. As the Corning was bound for Chicago, the captain thought it advisable to trans- fer the body to the propeller. The remains were conveyed to the morgue wrapped in the stars and stripes, and dur- ing the afternoon interred at Forest Home." ===============================================================================
