JOHN P. CONITY, a boy about 13 years old, was emplyed to roll a piece of land preparatory to sowing barley. He had gone a little more than once around the field when it was noticed that the team had stopped. His employer was working in the same field and thinking that perhaps the harness was out of order went to assist the boy and was horrified to find him under the roller. He was lying face downward with the roller across his shoulders and life was extinct. Just how it happened will never be known, but it is supposed that he was riding and somehow lost his balance, and as he was falling stopped the horses, but not in time to save his life. This sad casualty has cast a gloom over the entire community as the boy was unusually bright and active and was a general favorite in the neighborhood. **Possibly John P. Conaty, son of John and Emily, who died in 1888 at the age of 13 and is buried in St. Bernard's Cemetery. ===========================================================================
