              A disasterous fire occurred in this city on Saturday
            night last, which entirely consumed the Merchant's 
            Hotel. It was one of the largest structures in the
            city, being five stories in height. The wall unexpect-
            edly gave way, falling upon an adjoining two story
            building, crushing it and burying in its ruins, seven
            or eight persons, five of whom lost their lives. It
            is thought to be the work of an incendiary. -
