              DIED A PAUPER
              
              THOS. DAVIS Once Well Known 
               Local Character Dead at
                County Poor Farm
                
              THOS. DAVIS, who has been at the county poor
            farm for some time past died Saturday of con-
            sumption. DAVIS was once a well known character
            about the city. In the early days he was a cruiser
            and was at one time said to be quite wealthy. A
            short time ago he became ill and was taken to the
            poor farm. His death has been daily expected for
            some time. A subscription is being taken up among
            his old friends today to provide for his burial
            and is meeting with the most generous response.
            DAVIS has no relatives in this vicinity, but has
            well to do relatives in New York state.
