Goodrich pub. 1905 - Hennepin Publishing Co., Minneapolis page 194 LEWIS J. CARPENTER was born in Chautauqua Co., New York, Jan. 28, 1836. His father removed to Michigan in 1844, where he attended the common schools and worked at farming. He came to Anoka Co., Apr. 1, 1861, settling in section 28, town of Ramsey. He has held various town offices. He enlisted in 1864 in Hatch's Independent Battalion of Cavalry and served until mustered out in August, 1865. He was married Feb. 14, 1860, to ANN FRANKISH. Children: ELMER E. (died 1896), FRANK S., HERBERT (died 1897), ALBERT (Missoula, Mont.), CLINTON C. (now a physician at Bird Island, Minn.), and ANNETTE (Mrs. A. W.
