M. Engineer CHARLES A. STODDARD, of the eastbound train, who was killed in the wreck, lived in Detroit at 779 Trumbull avenue. He was about 57 years of age, a native of New York and had been in the employ of the Pere Marquette road for twenty-one years, working up through the various grades. For several years, as a fireman and freight engineer, he made his home in Ionia. Between three and four years ago he received his last promotion, and was placed on the Detroit- Grand Rapids run. Since then he has been a resident of this city. The news of his violent death came as a great shock to the family, which consists of a widow and one son, ALFRED STODDARD, agent for a Nebraska mining company and, at pre- sent, on a visit to Detroit. Engineer STODDARD was considered a good man in his pro- fession and was much trusted by his superiors.
