Mr. W. D. BRIGGS, in company with others, had been washing sheep in a small lake, and after finishing the job, Mr. B. swam across the lake, a distance of about forty rods. On his return, and about the centre of the lake, either from loss of strength or a cramp, he sunk to a watery grave. The alarm was immediately given, and every effort has been made for the recovery of his body, but as yet without success. Mr. B. was an old resident of the township, and en- joyed the confidence and respect of his fellow citizens, who, at the recent spring election, made him their Treasurer. - Mich.
