H. R. Page & Co., Chicago, 1883 -71- WILLIAM ATKIN, farmer and lumber dealer, was born in England, November 25, 1847. He spent his youth in his native country, and came to New York, June 11, 1872, on board the ill-fated steamer Atlantic, 562 of whose passengers shortly after lost their lives off Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has spent five years in Lapeer County, at Otter Lake, and has now been five years in Arbela. On November 10, 1879, he was married to Miss ALMINA BIRD, of Elba, Mich. They have two children, CLARA ANN and CLARENCE WILLIAM. They have forty acres of excellent land and good buildings on section 36. Mr. ATKIN last year raised over forty bushels of wheat to the acre on his place. He is crop correspondent for Arbela Township, to the secre- tary of State. He also deals quite extensively in lumber for him- self, and sells on commission for others. He is agent for the L. H. Bennett Improved Plymouth Fanning Mill, and also for the New Baltimore Mill, manufactured by William W. Parker & Sons, and also for the Almont Nursery, Lapeer County, Mich. ===========================================================================
