Two weeks ago MR. RANKIN contracted a severe cold, which resulted in a complication of diseases. The deceased was 89 years of age. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Port Huron Daily Times Saturday, 7 January, 1905 STEPHEN W. L. RANKIN, whose death was mentioned Friday, was born Feb. 4th, 1816, at Frederickton, N. B. When 30 years of age he came West, and for two years was a sailor on the steamer Mohawk. He was married Aug. 22, 1850, to Miss ELMINA A. LEO- NARD, of Ontario, but who was then living in Grant township. While yet a resident of New Brunswick MR. RANKIN enlisted in the army and fought in the war with China in 1835, and was rewarded with the queen's silver medal for valiant service. Had he lived a short while longer he would doubtless have received the Red Cross decoration from the British government, as the matter has been pending for some months. An aged wife and six children survive, three children having preceded him in death. Those living are: MRS. IRWIN BARBERRY, MRS. EMMA DAWSON, resi- dents of this city; MRS. JOHN BRITZ, of Marine City; MRS. NELSON CARPENTER, of Anchorville; MRS. DENNIS SULTON, of Harrisville, and HIRAM RANKIN, who lived with his parents. The deceased had 30 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren living. ===============================================================================
