         The widow of GEORGE COTTRELL, Sr., died on October 24th,
       at the advanced age of 88 years and 8 days, after an ill-
       ness of six week. MRS. COTTRELL was born at Point Aux
       Tromble, near the river St. Clair, and was one of the 
       oldest inhabitants of this county. She leaves a family
       of ten children, five boys and five girls, namely: GEORGE,
       RICHARD, CHARLES, JOHN and NAPOLEON, and MRS. RECOR, MRS.
       NEWSTEAD, MRS. RIFFLINBERG, MRS. SCOTT and MRS. SMITH.
       She also leaves 42 grand-children and 32 great grand-
       children.
       
         MRS. COTTRELL was attending school at Detroit in 1812,
       at the time GEN. HULL delivered it to the English, and
       also in 1813 when GEN. HARRISON became victorious over
       the English. She was the first child baptised in St. 
       Ann's church in Detroit, and also received the first
       communion there by REV. FATHER GABRIEL RICHARDS. She was
       married in St. Ann's church, and her three first children
       were baptised in the same church. She was a devoted christ-
       ian, and had the honor of receiving all the rights of the
       Catholic church.
       
         The funeral services took place at the Holy Cross church,
       and were conducted by REV. FATHER MEDAR. A large number of
       friends and relatives accompanied the remains to their
       last resting place.
       
       (Transcrbier's Note: This was likely ARCHANGE Cottell
       who appears on the 1850 Federal Census misspelled as
       ARCANS Cotrill, age 53, a widow, with Richard, age 22, 
       residing with her. Her husband, George Cottrell, died
       in May, 1848.)
