He was the oldest known resident of St. Clair county. He was born in Detroit at Fort Gratiot garrison. BEUCHAMP was com- missioned by the commander to negotiate with the Indians and prevented a massacre of the whites through his influence. He leaves a family of nine children, three of whom are members of the G.A.R. lodge of Marine City. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Detroit Free Press Friday, 19 June, 1908 Marine City, Mich., June 18 - ANTOINE BEUCHAMP, who died Monday at the age of 96, was buried from Holy Cross church today. He was the oldest known resident of St. Clair county. He was born in De- troit at Fort Gratiot garrison. DR. BLACKBORNE, his physician, said that BEUCHAMP before he died said that his father was a great friend of GEN. GRATIOT and also friendly with the Indians around the fort at that time. BEUCHAMP was commissioned by the commander to negotiate with the Indians and prevented a massacre of the whites through his in- fluence.
