JOHN GUTEKUNST was born in Wurtemburg, Germany, in 1830, Oct. 14. In 1850 he came to the United States and located at Ann Arbor, working in a sash, door and blind factory. Twenty-seven years ago he removed to Owosso and worked at the same business in a shop then owned by W. A. CARR, the building has since burned down. In 1856 MR. GUTEKUNST and his brother-in-law estab- lished the first brewery in the county, in Owosso, and the former continued in that business up to the time of his death. About the year 1865, by order of the legislature, MR. GUTEKUNST'S name was changed to that by which he has always been familiary known, GUTE. MR. GUTE has served as an alderman about 14 years in Owosso. He was widely known for having developed the Owosso mineral springs, improved the grounds, built the bath-house and also the fine brick building formerly intended for a hotel and boarding house, but which of late he has occupied as a family residence. He leaves a widow and five children, GEORGE, who resides in Ohio, ALBERT who is now at the South, CLARA, LOUISA and HERMAN who reside at home. About ten days ago MR. GUTE was taken with an epileptic fit, at the breakfast table, and it was thought for a time that he was dead, but DR. PERKINS being called, he was restored and continued to improve somwwhat, but with the return of similar paroxysms died Wednes- day night, at about 11 o'clock. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, at 2 o'clock at his late residence. MR. GUTE was a member of the Knights Templar and that order will take charge of the funeral. ===============================================================================
