SIMMONS, 75, Of Shelby, Exprires Shelby, Sept. 15. - (Special) - JESSE C. SIMMONS, 75 years old, a retired machinist and an inventor and musician, died Friday at the Shelby Municipal hospital following a brief illness. He maintained an office in Shelby about 25 years ago and obtained several patents for various inven- tions, including a washing machine and electrical appliances. A violinist, he conducted an orchestra many years ago. MR. SIMMONS was born in Ohio in February 1870 and came to Michigan while a young man. He came to Shelby from Big Rapids and on Dec. 14, 1897 was married to BIRD RIED, of New Era. He attended the Congregational church and was a member of the Benona F. and A. M. lodge. MRS. SIMMONS died on July 31, 1940. Surviving are three grandchildren, MRS. HAROLD MILLER of Shelby, S/Sgt. JESSE SIMMONS, with the AAF in Italy, and JANICE SIMMONS of Shreveport, La.
