VOL. I, NO. 16 Friday, 5 May 1871 [extracted obituaries] DIED. In Pentwater, May 3, 1871, LUELLA, daughter of GEORGE and ALVINA REED, aged 14 years. ------------------------------------------ EAST SHORE NEWS PENTWATER, OCEANA Co., MICH. VOL. I, NO. 17 Friday, 12 May 1871 Blackberry Ridge Our old and tried friends, Mr. and Mrs. REED, have our sympathy. We know just how they are left. There is a vacant spot in the heart of the parent that loses a child. We have been with them in their trouble, and we are glad to be able to say that they were always ready to assist in such a time of need. They are missed here. The two children are missed in our school, but our loss is their gain, for there is no doubt but that they are in a better world. The youngest, while on her death-bed, only a few hours before her death, asked her mother to sing, and struck up and sang a verse from the beautiful song, "Ring the Bells of Heaven." These were nearly the last words she spake. It was very trying for the mother, but it was good proof that she was going to a better world. "J" DIED: REED - In Pentwater; May 3, 1871, LUELLA, daughter of GEORGE and ALMIRA REED, aged 14 years. REED - In Pentwater, May 6, 1871, LYDIA, daughter of GEORGE and ALMIRA REED, aged 10 years. The bereaved parents have now only one child left, and she is dangerously ill, although it is hoped that her life may be spared. Only those who have been through the same deep waters of affliction can fully sympathize with these stricken mourners. ===========================================================================
