May 5th, 1874, at Rice, Ambler and Montgomery's office, Pent- water. Members of the bar all represented. Meeting called to order, and J. M. RICE appointed Chairman, L. M. HARTWICK, Secretary. Motion made and carried, that a committee of three be appointed by the Chairman to draft resolutions expressive of the feelings of the bar with reference to the judicial administration of Judge GIDDINGS. Committee appointed, RUTHERFORD, RUSSELL and MONTGOMERY. Committee, after retiring for a time, returned and reported the following resolutions, viz.: WHEREAS, The members of the Oceana County Bar conceive that causes of complaint have arisen as to the administration of the Hon. A. H. GIDDINGS, as Circuit Judge of the 14th Judicial Circuit; and WHEREAS, It is believed that said causes are of a permanent nature; and WHEREAS, It is thought that the best interests of the people of said Circuit and members of the Bar thereof, demand that a change be made and another appointed to fill said position, held by said Judge GIDDINGS; THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the members of this Bar, that we request the said Hon. A. H. GIDDINGS to resign said position. Upon motion, the resolutions were unanimously adopted. Motion made and carried, that a committee of two, consisting of the Chairman and Mr. RUSSELL, be appointed to wait upon Judge GIDDINGS and use every effort, as friends of Judge GIDDINGS, to induce him to resign, and if he refuses, to present him with a copy of resolutions previously adopted, and inform him that the Oceana County Bar will use every honorable effort to procure his removal. Motion made and carried, that we adjourn to meet at F. J. RUSSELL'S office, in Hart, May, 11th, 1874, at one o'clock p.m. -------------------------- May 11th, 1874, one o'clock P.M., at F. J. RUSSELL'S office, Hart. Bar all represented. Meeting called to order, and F. J. RUSSELL appointed Chairman, in place of RICE, absent. Committee to wait on Judge GIDDINGS reported as the result of their interview that Judge GIDDINGS utterly refused to entertain a request to resign. Motion made and carried, that a committee of three be appointed to meet at Muskegon with a like committee from each county in this Circuit, on some day named by said committees, to take such action as they shall deem advisable, towards procuring the removal of Judge GIDDINGS from office, and that the Secretary be instructed to correspond with all the attorneys in this Circuit, informing them of our action and requesting them to call bar meetings in their respective counties, for the purpose of appointing committees to meet at Muskegon as aforesaid. Upon motion, W. E. AMBLER, R. A. MONTGOMERY and L. G. RUTHERFORD were appointed committee to represent this bar. Motion made and carried, that the proceedings of this, and meeting held May 5th, 1874, be published in each of the county papers. Motion made and carried, that this be deemed a permanent organi- zation for the year 1874, with present officers. Motion made and carried, that we adjourn subject to the call of the Chairman. L. M.
