Build- ings are warmed by wood stoves and ventilation is by windows and doors. The house is built on an elevation with good drainage. Treat- ment of paupers is good, and as near like home as it is possible to get a public institution. Food consists of plenty of vegetables, salt and fresh meats, and good bread and butter. Clothing rather plain but sufficient to make inmates comfortable and keep them clean. Good care is taken of the sick, both by the keeper and help from the paupers. The accommodations for the insane are limited to one cell. The chil- dren are educated at the public school one half-mile from county house. The county is building a kitchen and wash room on the north side of the house which will make a great improvement in the convenience of the institution. =========================================================================== Joint Documents of the State of Michigan Vol. 2, 1899 [51-52] Oceana. - Poorhouse is located in the township of Hart.
