Tuesday, 23 August 1859

         Suicide in Oakland, - We learn by telegraph that
       MRS. JOHN VALENTINE, of Troy, committed suicide
       yesterday, by cutting her throat with a razor. She
       lingered until noon today, when life became extinct.
       Temporary insanity is alleged as the cause for the
       commission of the deed. She was the wife of a wealthy
       farmer.
