         At the recent fire at Woodville, Newaygo
       county, which destroyed the mill and lumber
       yard of L. T. KINNEY, amongst the property
       burned were thirteen small cottages occupied
       by employes of the mill. These people lost
       all their household effects, and in conse-
       quence their prospects with winter's near
       approach were not in the least brilliant.
       But the present week MR. KINNEY prepared a
       surprise for them, presented each one with
       a deed for twenty acres of improved farming
       land in the vicinity, and as soon as the
       mill is rebuilt will give each one suffi-
       cient lumber to build substantial homes
       upon the land. - Grand Rapids Eagle.
