One George Bates from Big Rapids, has lately been boarding in the family of Abia T. Armstrong, who has lived there with his wife and child for several months. Armstrong, suspecting his wife and Bates of intimacy, watched; catching them in the act, took an ax and started for them. The man Bates ran to another room for a revolver, and the woman in trying to prevent Armstrong from fol- lowing him, received a blow with the ax which nearly severed her head from the body. Bates then appeared with the revolver and a struggle ensued between the husband and his wife's seducer, which finally resulted in the death of the latter. Armstrong went immediately to the officers and informed them of what he had done and gave himself up. He showed great grief over the death of his wife. The child was found lying in the blood of its mother. ===========================================================================
