His father, Nelson Reed, was a native of Scotland, and his mother, Josette (Thibbert) Reed, was born in France. At the age of 18 he left home and for two years lived in Vermont. He then went to Illinois for a short time, then to Muskegon, Michigan, where he remained until the fall of 1872, then came to Newaygo County and bought 80 acres of wild land in Sheridan Township, where he now resides. He has since added 40 acres to his farm, and has about 60 acres under improvement. He was married in Muskegon, June 13, 1868, to Margaret Malett, a native of Canada. In politics he is a Republican, and himself and wife are members of the Baptist Church. ===========================================================================
