MR. HAMMOND was born in Ravenna, Michigan, January 17, 1877, coming to Muskegon with his parents when a child, where he was educated and grew to manhood. He was married to MISS CLARISSA OSBORN of Muskegon in this city, February 24, 1898, the couple settling here where they have lived since. For many years he was an electrician and was employed by the Telephone company, Traction company and the Power company and helped build the telephone line from Muskegon to Grand Rapids. In 1912 he entered service on the police force and in 1913 was elevated to the rank of detective where he has served for the past 12 years. MR. HAMMOND tracked down and arrested many criminals. However he was greatly loved and honored for his kindly manner and courteous disposition. He was a member of the Metropolitan club and of the Children of Zion church. He leaves, besides his widow, one daughter, MISS FEROL HAMMOND, at home; three sons, CHARLES DOUGLAS of Muskegon and NATHAN L. and CLIFFORD BRUCE, both at home; his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. NATHAN KELLY HAMMOND of this city; one sister, MRS. R. E. STAUFFER; two brothers, MARK of Muskegon and WILLIAM of Kuska, Idaho; two grandchildren, an aunt, MRS. JANE YOUNG of Grand Rapids and an uncle, WILLIAM HAMMOND of Muskegon. Friends who wish to view the body may do so at the Balbirnie Funeral home this afternoon and tomorrow. Transcriber's Note: Det. Hammond was killed during a shootout with George "Dutch" Anderson on Oct. 31, 1925. George Anderson was one of the most notorious prohition- era criminals of the time. ===========================================================================
