         Mecosta County:
         
         The Eagle has the following items from Big Rapids: On the
       night of the 29th ult., HIBBARD PRESTON, of this township,
       who was stopping at Rogers' Hotel, in Mecosta, being slightly
       intoxicated, got into an altercation with DANIEL HYDE, the
       hostler, and was thrown out of doors by him, his head striking
       on the ice, injuring him very severely, from the effects of
       which he died on the 6th inst. A coroner's jury was summoned
       by Justice ROSE, which rendered a verdict that he came to his
       death from injuries received at the hands of DANIEL HYDE.
       HYDE has been arrested, and held for trial on a charge of
       murder.
       
       Transcriber's Note: At trial Daniel Hyde was found guilty
       of assault and battery. Sentenced to 20 days in jail and
       fined $200.
