S. Henry at Mecosta - But Got Little Money. Five unknown men wrecked the bank building of D. S. HENRY at Mecosta Tuesday morning, April 28, drove the citizens to cover and escaped before any effort could be made to apprehend them. The citizens of the town were startled at 3 o'clock in the morning by a heavy explosion which shook the town and the windows in a number of nearby buildings. Several men of the town ran out of their homes and start- ed in the direction of the explosion. They were met by armed men who ordered them to return to their homes. They complied with the order and the men inside the bank escaped. An investigation revealed the fact that a heavy charge of dynamite had been used to wreck the vault. Citizens gathering in the street frightened the robbers and they left before rifling the safe. They secured no money ex- cept some small change. The men escaped on foot. Sheriff BROWER of Big Rapids was immediately notified and with a posse of men was in pursuit an hour after the robbers left. The bank building was literally torn to pieces. The front was blown out into the street and all the loss will amount to several thousand dol- lars as the bank will have to be practi- cally rebuilt and refurnished. Two of the robbers, CHARLES THOMPSON and JAMES BURKE, were rounded up in a swamp north of Wiedman, Wednesday, and captured after a hot pistol duel with the officers. Under Sheriff J. J. HENDERSON, of Big Rapids and Deputy Sheriff COMPSON of Millbrook, took the men to Big Rapids and put them in jail. ==========================================================================
