Smith, farmer, sec. 5, Deerfield Tp., was born Dec. 9, 1853, in the State of New York. His parents, Hosea and Mary (Fenton) Smith, were both born in the Empire State. At the age of two years Mr. Smith was placed in the care of his maternal grand-parents, and continued to reside with them until the age of 19 years. He came to Michigan in the spring of 1882 and purchased 40 acres of land under cultivation in Deerfield Tp., where he now resides. He was married in New York, June 19, 1878, to Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander and Cornelia (Munson) Smith. Of two children born to them, but one survives: Albert, born May 28, 1883. Lewis, first-born child, died Sept. 9, 1880 ===========================================================================
