At 23 years of age he left his home and made his way westward, hoping to find an opportunity to build up his fortune with substantial profit. He came to Mecosta Co., and pre-empted 40 acres of Government land and 40 acres of swamp land, later buying an additional “40,” of which he still retains possession, making a good farm of 120 acres with 60 improved. Mr. Sedore is a pioneer of Deerfield Tp., and has been a resident of the county since 1857. He is a marked individual in the records of “first things” in his township, as his marriage was the initial event of that character to transpire after its settlement and organization. He was married in 1862, to Elizabeth, daughter of Franklin B. Smith, George Quigley, first white settler of Deerfield, performing the ceremony of marriage under his authority as Justice of the Peace. Mr. and Mrs. Sedore have six children: Susan, Wm. H, Phebe, David, Melvin and Evaline. Mr. Sedore is a member of the Republican party. Religiously he is a liberalist. He enlisted in the late war in 1864, in Co. A, Third Volunteer Michigan Infantry, served until the close of the war, and was honorable discharged. ===========================================================================
