SCHWASS, 39, of Riverton township and GENE BEADLE, 20, of Custer were killed this morning as the result of an accident at 8 a.m. when the car which SCHWASS was driving collied with an eastbound Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Co. train in the village of Custer, Mason county sheriff's department reported. MR. SCHWASS was driving north on the county road through Custer and could not slow down enough on the icy hill to avoid the train. SCHWASS was thrown 50 feet into a ditch and died immediately. MR. BEADLE died about 11 a.m. at Paulina Stearns hospital of multiple fractures, internal injuries and severe shock. The two men, who were brothers-in-law, were on their way deer hunting with MR. BEADLE'S father, DAVID BEADLE, 65, who received a shoulder injury, and ALGIRD ISGAN, 25, of Ludington, who was not in- jured in the accident. The county road through Custer has not been sanded during the icy weather, Custer residents said this morning. MR. SCHWASS' father, ERNEST SCHWASS, was killed Aug. 10, 1949, in an auto accident in Riverton near his home. MR. SCHWASS was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Riverton, where he had lived all of his life. He was married in 1933 to LEONA BEADLE of Custer in Caro. A farmer, he was a member of Center Riverton Evangelical United Brethren church. Surviving are his widow; four children, THEODORE 15, RICHARD 13, NANCY LEE 10, and MITCHELL eight; his mother, MRS. JENNIE SCHWASS, and a brother, PHILLIP. The body will be taken to his residence in River- ton on Sunday. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Butler-Morrison funeral home in Ludington. MR. BEADLE, who was born Sept. 23, 1929; in Sherman township, was a graduate of Custer school. He served in the Army for some time. He leaves his widow, the former MISS HELEN JEAN MORSE; a son, ROBERT LEE, seven months old; his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. DAVID BEADLE; three brothers, HAROLD of Lansing, FRANK of Custer and DEWARD of Branch; and five sisters, MRS. LEOLA JOHNSON of New York, MRS. HOWARD SCHWASS of Riverton, MRS. ALGIRD ISGAN of Ludington, MRS. WARREN HOLDEN of Ludington and MISS MAISIE BEADLE at home. Funeral arrangments are being made by Stephens funeral home in Scottville. ===========================================================================
