ALFRED PIPER DEAD Formerly in Charge of Operations at Rolling Mill Mine. CAPT. ALFRED PIPER, who was in charge of underground operations at the Rolling Mill mine for the Clement Quinn interests for some time prior to a few months ago, died early yesterday morning at Morgan Heights sanitarium. The remains were brought to town during the day and taken to the family home in Cyr street, where funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon. Deceased was a native of Cornwall and was about 45 years of age. He went to Canada a number of years ago and about nine years ago came from the Cobalt mining district to the Marquette range. He was employed at mines in Negaunee, Humboldt and on the Crystal Falls range, having been captain at the Judson property at Alpha, prior to coming to Negaunee again. Ill health nec- cesitated his giving up the duties of cap- tain several months ago, and he had been given lighter work up to the time that his illness demanded complete rest. Deceased is survived by a widow and three children, the oldest of the latter being 14 years old. MRS. PIPER is a daughter of the late JAMES SAUNDERS, a Negaunee pioneer. There also survive an aged mother, two brothers and three sisters in England, and two brothers, JAMES and CHARLES re- side in Negaunee. Another brother, THOMAS PIPER, met death in the Humboldt mine a few years ago. An uncle, EDWIN PIPER, re- sides at Vulcan. Negaunee lodge No. 202, F. & A.M. will have charge of the funeral, acting in behalf of Crystal Falls lodge, in which deceased held membership. He was also a member of the Consistory and Shrine at Marquette, and of Champion lodge I.O.O.F. The services at the home will be conducted by Rev. R. L. HEWSON, pastor of Mitchell M. E. Church, and the Masonic rites will be performed at the grave. - Negaunee Herald. ===========================================================================
