The body was in such a horrible state of decomposition that it was unrecognizable and he could not approach near enough to get the paper. The place is four miles be- yond the last settlement. WILLIAM FRED, who ran across the body, came to the city and reported the case, and the officers of the Marquette prison sent out a party to ascertain if it was not one of the convicts who escaped recently.
