Ishpeming, Mich. -- (AP) -- The Ishpeming High school, a three- story brick building erected in 1907, burned to the ground today. The fire was discovered at 11:45 a.m., and two hours later the building was a total loss, the walls having caved in. The manual training building and the Swedish church, nearby, were not endangered. The Central school, which adjoins the high school, caught fire as a wind carried the flames to the east, however. Firemen from Ishpeming, Negaunee and other nearby towns joined in attempting to save the structure. Arrangements for temporary housing when school opens this fall, are to be made at a special meeting of the school board tonight. It was suggested that Mar- quette or Negaunee house any "overflow" from temporary quarters. The fire started under the stage in the auditorium, apparently from defective wiring. The loss is estimated by school officials at $75,000. ==========================================================================
