TAGGART of the tug Edwards was lost overboard and drowned. The night was very dark and as the tug came between the piers by some mischance she went too far north and struck. The captain came out of the wheel-house and shouted to the schooner which was in tow to keep off. Whether he fell overboard or was carried off by the bowsprit of the vessel is not known. The jar burst the steam-pipe and he was not missed for two or three minutes. The body washed up on the north side of the beach about two hours afterwards. The face was quite badly bruised. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Detroit Free Press (marine deaths) Thursday, 11 December, 1873 Captain EDWARD TAGGART, drowned from tug Edwards at Manistee, while towing a vessel into that port. ===============================================================================
