The Lake County Star
August 28, 1873

         Drowned on the 17th inst., near Giffords & Ruddock's 
       mill, PETER O'CONNEL aged 4 years, and a German boy,
       aged 11 years. The boys were playing on the logs in
       the boom, when they fell through and were drowned. Their
       bodies were soon after recovered.
