Organized as Manistee County in the spring of 1855 and was comprised of 3 townships, Manistee, Stronach and Brown. Current townships are Arcadia, Cleon, Bear Lake, Brown, Filer, Manistee, Maple Grove, Marilla, Onekama, Pleasanton, Springdale and Stronach.
