R. Page & Co., Chicago - 1882 [pg 65-66] CHARLES RIETZ, president of the CHAS. RIETZ & Bros. Lumber Co., has for many years been well known in connection with the lumber interests of Manistee. He was born in Germany, in 1827, and came to this country in 1847. In 1867 he came to Manistee and purchased a sawmill, and laid the foundation of the immense business now carried on by the company. MR. RIETZ's brothers, who are interested with him, reside in Chicago. In 1870 a new mill was built, as mentioned elsewhere. The salt interests of the company are also described in another place. MR. RIETZ occupies an elegant residence near the mills. In the management of the business here he is assisted by his son, MR. FRANK RIETZ, who is a practical mill man, and gives his personal attention to superintending the operation of the mills. MR. FRANK RIETZ was born in Chicago and came to Manistee in 1878. ===============================================================================
