New Series No. 37 Thursday, February 1, 1883 CAPT. HENRY VAN ALLEN, proprietor and landlord of the Island House on Mackinac island, died Friday, aged 80. It is stated that he was captain of the famous fast steamer Mayflower and of other noted steamers on Lake Erie 35 or 40 years ago. If this is correct, he was once one of the most widely known and popular lake captains in the west.
