The building is a two-story frame, and is in fair condition. Bath tubs are used for bathing. The building is heated with stoves and drums, and ventilated by doors and windows. Paupers are treated kindly and furnished with good, wholesome food. When in need of clothing they are furnished with what they require. The sick are furnished with physician and nurse when required. We have no accommodations for the insane and idiotic. No children to educate. We employ our keeper and wife by the year, paying them $120 per year for care of the house and $2.50 per week for boarding each pauper sent to the poorhouse. Our poor- farm consists of 80 acres of fair land; we have about 30 acres cleared and under cultivation. Our keeper works the farm on shares, and we are well satisfied with our arrangement. At present we have only one inmate in the poorhouse. =========================================================================== Page 141 Biennial Report of the State Board of Corrections and Charities 1907-1908 MACKINAC Has no infirmary. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
