              The latest of Michigan's state institutions,
            the upper peninsula hospital for the insane, at
            Newberry, was formally opened Friday of last
            week. It was originally intended to open it on
            Oct. 15, but delays compelled a postponement.
            Fifty patients have arrived from Traverse City.
            The new concern has a capacity for 100. Dr.
            SAMUEL BELL, of Detroit, is medical superin-
            tendent, and Dr. CHAMBERLAIN, of Bessemer,
            assistant superintendent. JOHN SHRIEVE, of
            Detroit, is chief engineer, and MRS. STRONG,
            of Detroit, matron.
