        Luce. - The poorhouse is located in McMillan township.  The house
     is a two-story frame building and is in good condition.  Building is
     warmed by stoves and ventilated by windows.  The paupers are well
     treated.  Food is plain and good, and clothing plain and comfortable.
     The sick are well cared for.  No special accommodations for the insane
     and idiotic.  Have no children to educate.

        Infirmary in village of Newberry.  A small two-story frame build-
     ing, with rear portion a story and a half high.  Is heated with hot
     water; has bathing facilities.  The premises have a neglected look.
     Fire protection is inadequate.  The demands of the county are small.
