         JACOB SHERMAN was arrested for assault with intent
       to kill his son on the 28th inst. In a fit of anger
       he seized his gun and attempted to shoot his son, aged
       fourteen years. A door, however, prevented him from 
       killing the boy instantly and it is thought he will
       recover.
