The house of MICHAEL GILBERT, a German, three quarters of a mile west of Knight's Station in Riga, was burned down on the night of the 3d inst., and MR. GILBERT was consumed in it. MR. GILBERT was a widower and lived entirely alone in the house, taking his meals at his step-son's some eighty rods from his dwelling. He had been absent from the neighborhood for some time, until about two weeks since, and was supposed to be somewhat deranged. Nothing is known of the origin of the fire, as the destruction of the house was not known by the neighbors until the following morning, though MR. A. J. KNIGHT informs us that the light of the burning was seen at his place at about eleven o'clock in the night, no one mistrusting, however, that a house was burning. In the morning, when it was found that the house was consumed, it was at first suspected that GILBERT had gone away and left some fire in a careless way, which communicated to the building. Subsequential search in the ashes, however, led to the discovery of portions of human bones and a part of the entrails, including the stomach, leaving no doubt that the man was con- sumed with his house. - Adrian Watchtower, Nov. 5. ===========================================================================
