Page & Co., Chicago, 1884 Page 42 SAMUEL MATHEWS was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, May 23, 1831. At the age of thirteen he came with his parents to Almont where they settled on section 26. The journey was made by way of Sandusky and Detroit and through the Maumee Swamp. The wagon containing their household goods was drawn by three yoke of oxen, and they drove thirty head of cattle. He remained upon the farm until he was twenty-two years of age, and then went to work for himself. He subsequently bought a farm in section 6, where he now resides. In 1861, he married Miss ABIGAIL ENGLISH, of Vermont. ===========================================================================
