In 1855, came to Lake Superior; worked eight months at the Flint Steele Mine; also in the Douglass, Houghton, Toltec and Evergreen Mines. He then returned to England, where he spent four years; then went to Brazil, South America, where he remained three years and eight months, and then returned to England. Three months later, he returned to America, and located at the Central Mine, Keweenaw County, Mich., where he was employed as a miner three and a half years; he also worked at the Copper Falls eight years. In the fall of 1880, he moved to Eagle Harbor, and the June following he leased the hotel he now keeps. ===========================================================================
