        CHARLES CORGAN was born in Ireland in 1822; he came to America in
     1842; made his home in Canada till 1864; then came to Lake Superior in
     1866; he was appointed keeper of the Manitou Light, and held that
     position seven years; he was then assigned to the Copper Harbor Light,
     of which he had charge nine years, or till November, 1881, during
     which time he had charge of the Government property at Fort Wilkins;
     he has made his home at Copper Harbor since 1868, where he now keeps
     hotel.
