CARL VOIGT CLAIMED BY DEATH Widow of Prominent Business Man Was Active in Church and Charity FUNERAL ON TUESDAY MRS. ELIZABETH S. VOIGT, 87, widow of CARL. G. A. VOIGT, founder of the VOIGT Milling Co., died Saturday afternoon at her home, 115 College av., S. E. MR. VOIGT also was senior partner in the VOIGT-Herpolsheimer Co. MRS. VOIGT was born in Ann Arbor July 6, 1841, the daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. JOHN CONRAD WURSTER. She removed with her family in 1855 to Michigan City, Ind. She first visited Grand Rapids in 1857, when she took the stage coach over the old Kalamazoo plank road to visit friends in this city. She was married in 1860 in Michigan City, where her hus- band was manager of a dry goods store. MR. VOIGT founded his own company in 1865. Soon afterward William G. Herpol- sheimer became a partner and in 1870 they established a branch in Grand Rapids known as the VOIGT-Herpolsheimer Co., at 43 Monroe av. Mr. and Mrs. VOIGT came to reside in Grand Rapids in 1875. MR. VOIGT purchased the Star Milling Co. and in 1882 the Crescent Milling Co., the firm becoming the VOIGT Milling Co. In 1902 MR. VOIGT and Mr. Herpolsheimer disolved part- nership. When MR. VOIGT died in 1908, MRS. VOIGT became vice- president of the milling concern, acting in that capacity until her death. The VOIGT residence was built in 1896. MRS. VOIGT was known for her philanthropies and was active in church work in her younger life. She preferred, however, to do her work unostentatiously and was affili- ated with no club work. Surviving are three daughters, MRS. CLARA VOIGT HAKE, MISS EMMA LOUISE VOIGT and MRS. CHARLES F. PERKINS, and two sons, CARL S. VOIGT, secretary and sales manager of the VOIGT Milling Co., and RALPH A. VOIGT, president and treasurer of the concern. She leaves also two grand- children, GAIUS VOIGT PERKINS and MRS. AREND V. DUBEE, and three great grandchildren, GAIUS WILCOX PERKINS, FREDERICK WILCOX PERKINS and AREND V. DUBEE, JR. All are residents of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the residence. Dean Charles E. Jackson of St. Mark's procathedral will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. ===========================================================================
