Although the mill was totally destroyed the salt brick and drill- house was saved. The engineer burned his hands in giving the alarm by the mill whistle and then opened the safety valves of the boilers. One boiler exploded. The wind was blowing a gale from the west. Several fires were started in Bearinger's mill yard from the sparks. The mill was valued at $40,000. About 100 men are thrown out of work. ==========================================================================
