It seems that six persons attempted to cross the lake in two small canoes lashed together. After reaching the middle of the lake the canoes swamped, and before assistance could reach them, JOHN BEACON, his wife and one child, and a daughter of PIERCE BODELL were drowned. MR. H. STARK and wife, who were also in the boats, were saved. The bodies were all recovered the same night at a late hour. Transcriber's Note: The 1870 Census Mortality Schedule lists John Beacon, age 28; Jane Beacon, age 25; and Sarah E. Beacon, age 2, all died in April, 1870. There is no listing with the surname Bodell in Campbell Twp. ===============================================================================
