HARRIET POTTER, another pioneer of Alaiedon,at rest. MRS. POTTER was born in the state of Vermont in the year 1831, her name being HARRIET NICHOLSON. Her parents both died when she was quite young. She was then cared for and schooled by her uncle. She then removed with other friends of the family to the state of Illinois, and then to Michi- gan in 1848. She then supported herself by teaching school until her marriage to JOHN POTTER, and with him settled on the present homestead in the year 1853, reclaiming it from the then forest, living with him until the fall of 1885, when MR. POTTER was killed by a traction engine running over him at the State fair in Lansing. Since that time un- til the time of her death she lived at her home or with her children. She leaves four sons, FRANK, WILLIS and GEORGE of this place and LEWIS of Holt. She united with the church in her girlhood and always took an interest in church matters until her death April 19th, 1895. Funeral services were held at the residence of her son FRANK, where she was at the time of her death. Services were conducted by Rev. Nichols of Dansville, and the remains were laid at rest beside her hus- bandin the DuBois cemetery. ===============================================================================
