In 1865 HIRAM SPITLER took up a homestead of 120 acres. Other well knewn (sic) men were the HOLMES families who settled in this and adjoining townships. The land is generally flat with a clay loam soil. It is drained by the Sheboyonk Creek and the Pigeon river. In recent years large drains have been cut throughout the township.
