Chapman Brothers, Chicago, 1884 [295] WILLIAM C. M. VAN TROMP, general manager of the Bay Port farm of F. CRAWFORD, resident at Caseville, was born May 9, 1835, at Taunton, Somersetshire, Eng., and is the son of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH (WARREN) VAN TROMP. The former died in August, 1881, and was nearly 81 years of age. He was a farmer all his life. The mother resides at the old home in Taunton. MR. VAN TROMP came to the Dominion of Canada in February, 1879, locating on a farm in Chatham Township, Kent County: he afterwards managed a farm for Messrs. WALKER & Sons; the place contained 1,100 acres, with 800 acres improved. He continued to operate there two years, and March 14, 1884, came to the county of Huron and entered the employ of F. CRAWFORD. He was married in 1862, in Kingston Church, Eng., to JANE BIFFEN, and they are the parents of three children, born as follows: EDITH J., Sept. 9, 1863; MARY E., April 27, 1865; HUBERT J., Dec. 12, 1863. The mother was born June 9, 1834, in Kingston, Eng., and is the daughter of JOHN and CHARLOTTE (WARREN) BIFFEN.
