CALUMET, Mich. - May 2, (Special) Trying to save the life of a comrade, JACOB KARPPINEN, aged 28, a miner at Quincy mine, Sunday night fell 240 feet from a ladder. He died Monday morning. His companion was badly hurt. MATT PASKVAN, aged 27, while trying to board an ascending rock car in Allouez mine Sunday night was instantly killed by falling beneath the wheels and being crushed.
