MR. KUEHN, 81, was in Milwaukee on a brief visit from his home at Watersmeet, Mich., when he became ill Friday. He had lived at Waters- meet since 1941. He was born in Bischweiler, Alsace-Lorraine, the son of a weaver and farmer. He came to the United States in 1888 when he was 20. He arrived in this country with $60 in his pocket and went to Canton, Ohio, where he worked first in a pottery shop. He worked briefly in a Canton bakery and then became a press operator for the Berger Manufacturing Co. at Canton. Started La Crosse Firm Later, he became a salesman in the middle western territory for the company. He left the firm in 1896 to start the La Crosse Steel Roofing & Corrugating Co., at La Crosse, Wis. In 1902 he left the La Crosse firm to organize the Milwaukee Corrugating Co. here. Associated with him were FRED and B. C. PRITZLAFF and AUGUST LUEDKE. Branches of the sheet metal pro- duct manufacturing company later were established in six other cities. MR. KUEHN acquried the Eller Manufacturing Co., Canton, Ohio, as part of his firm in 1929. The name of the Milwaukee Corrugating Co. was changed to Milcor Steel in 1930. KUEHN sold the firm to Inland Steel Co. in 1936 for about three million dollars. The Milcor name was retained until a year ago when it became the Inland Steel Pro- ducts Co. Retired in 1940 MR. KUEHN was president of the Milcor firm from 1902 to 1938 when he became chairman of its board. He retired in 1940 and moved to Watersmeet, Mich., with his wife, Viarda. He still held the title of chairman of the board of the Metal Products Corp. here, founded by his son, GEORGE, and a director- ship in Inland Steel. The home at 3432 N. Lake dr. which MR. KUEHN still used as his Milwaukee residence on his occasional visits here is a city landmark. The chateau-like house used to stand at the head of Martin st., fronting Juneau park. In 1928 when the city planned to enlarge Juneau park, the building was taken down stone by stone and moved to the new site. Rebuilt Stone for Stone It was rebuilt with each stone in exactly the same posi- tion it originally held and with every piece of the interior woodwork in the identical place it had occupied in the old building. MR. KUEHN was a member of the Milwaukee Athletic club and the Chicago Athletic club. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Shrine, Aurora lodge, the El Hajj club and the Royal Order of Jesters. Surviving him besides his wife and son is a daughter, MRS. MARIE K. INGERSOLL, Chicago. Masonic services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Weiss funeral home, 1901 N. Farwell av. Burial will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park. ===========================================================================
